THL-1011: The Bible, its World and its History (3 crédits)

Titre UL: The Bible and its World

This course is an introduction to the history of the Book (the Bible), from its original writings, to its numerous present translations as well as to its place and use within the Evangelical tradition. We examine certain issues surrounding the redaction of the Biblical texts to their being gathered together as well as their canonisation, their transmission and their translation. We consider the essential concepts of revelation, inspiration, canonicity, the historicity and authority of the Bible. We also look at how the Bible is used within the Evangelical movement and issues tied to that use : inerrancy, fundamentalist readings and the translation of certain texts in an Evangelical contexts and hermeneutics.
