Au revoir Friends by Kristen Corrigan, President

I believe it was Chaucer in 1374 who first quoted “There is an end to everything, to good things as well.” We usually know that saying as, “All good things must come to an end.”
After 11 years of loving on Quebec, the province of my birth, I now feel called back to BC, the province where my children were born and my career was launched.
It is a time of such mixed emotions!
For my final letter as the leader of ETEQ, formerly of ETEM, I would like to sign off with expressions of gratitude, what I am sad to leave, what I hope for and my requests for your prayers.

I give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for:

  • Calling Garry and me here in 2008
  • The way God has blessed us with friends who have stood by us through thick and through thin – you know who you are;
  • The way God has answered the prayers and dreams of those who have gone before by sending more Kingdom workers to share the Good News;
  • The way that ETEQ has grown steadily in its capacity to prepare men and women to serve in the French world and beyond;
  • The teachers who have given sacrificially of their knowledge and wisdom in order to teach, mentor, coach and help others develop into what God desires for their respective missions`;
  • Each and every staff member whether part time, full time and volunteers who have given sacrificially of their talents, skills, abilities and finances to advance the mission of ETEQ;
  • The churches who believe in the importance of formal education to supplement hands-on application in ministry;
  • To all our donors who have partnered with us in so many ways, through prayer, through encouragement, through creative responses to needs and to finances that are so mission critical;
  • To Université Laval which has believed in the importance of growing the church in Quebec, not only through their historic Catholic context, but with several of our evangelical schools who look to the same God.
  • My amazing husband, Garry who has responded with such love to God’s call in our lives;
  • My children and their families (Matt, Kristy and Gideon in Ottawa), (Whitney, Calvin, Kassie and Mason in the Okanagan) who have been so gracious toward their busy grandmother.

I am sad to leave:

  • Our sweet friends;
  • The book club that welcomed me into their small group shortly after I arrived;
  • The hustle and bustle of students coming and going from their classes, the library and the cafeteria.
  • The team that God gave me the honour of serving:, Ésaïe, Esdrac, Priscilla, Yvon, Danielle, Joël,  including the Academic Team of Jean, Gisandre, Véronique, Jean-Christophe, Richard, Yvon, and Marc;
  • The relationships that have been built in both the Mennonite Brethren and Christian and Missionary Alliance families across this great land of Canada;
  • Our sweet apartment on the historic Lachine Canal;
  • Favourite spots such as the Atwater Market, the Old Port of Montreal, Mount Royal, and the list could get really long so I will spare you so that you can find your own favourite spots in Montreal.

I dream of a day when:

  • Countless churches are thriving in Quebec, led and served by ETEQ graduates;
  • Each and every person who crosses the threshold of ETEQ senses the Holy Spirit and is drawn to go deeper in their faith and work for Jesus;
  • Finances abound so that through wise management, there is sufficient funding to provide for day to day operations, special projects, capital improvements and student financial aid;
  • Staff and faculty are remunerated at a rate that is both respectful and healthy for both them and the institution.
  • Garry and I enjoy more time with our families at both ends of the country for more than just a quick visit.

I pray that you will join me in prayer for:

  • Jean (John) Martin, Ph. D., who is taking over the reins of leadership effective July 1st, 2019. You will get to know him more over the next while, but please see his brief introduction below;
  • The staff and faculty during the transition, that they will discover together the “new normal” for the school;
  • Our 27 graduates this spring, that they will each find fulfilling work to apply what they have learned in service to God;
  • Our existing students and those in the process of joining ETEQ for Fall 2019, that there will be minimal distractions throughout their studies and for their needs to be met;
  • Monthly financial requirements to be met, particularly during the summer when donations tend to be low but monthly commitments don’t stop;
  • You to stay close in prayer, encouragement and support now and into the future.

So as our time together in this role comes to an end, I would like to leave you with the Aaronic Blessing from Numbers 6: 24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

Your sister in Christ,
Kristen Corrigan
President ETEQ (retiring June 30, 2019)
