A Word from our President - Kristen Corrigan

2017-2018 is the seventh academic  year since ETEQ (formerly ETEM & IBVIE) began a process of rebirth and renewal of our particular expression of evangelical education.  Our new mission statement is: ETEQ is a school emerging from Evangelical church families mobilized to provide theological university-level education as a service to Christian communities, so that men and women may be equipped to serve Christ in the ever-changing context of Quebec and the world.

During the time of rebuilding the school, I have often used the analogy that it felt as though we were flying an airplane while still assembling it! It was bumpy, felt disorganized at times, and we knew that it had too few pieces fully and properly assembled. For example:

  • Too few human resources operating outside of their primary strengths and doing whatever it took to keep the plane aloft;  even if it was not necessarily their area of training, expertise, passion or gifting.
  • Too few systems in place for the tasks at hand (telephone, computer, financial, accounting, etc.)
  • Too few dollars!

God bless each and every one of our tiny team who has hung in there through doubts, fears and health, financial and resourcing challenges.  I am convinced that we have not only survived but thrived thus far because each and every team member has kept their eyes on Jesus.

Just as God took the seventh day to rest, we are looking at our seventh year as a chance to catch our breath, to build on our strengths and prepare for yet another exciting launch. In the Fall of 2018 we will be offering for the first time, evangelical theology courses in English in a French-Canadian school.

Since 2011-2012 we have seen our enrolment triple and the diversity of our student body, faculty and staff grow. We have seen our two founding denominations (MBs and C&MA), and a growing body of individuals and foundations walk step by step with us, praying, encouraging and supporting as they sense God guiding them. And most importantly, we see men and women growing in their excitement and capacity to serve our Lord wherever He calls them. We are so honored to share their testimonies in our newsletters.

You are invited to read on, to continue to lift us up in prayer, that we may continue to build and strengthen our micro-programs, certificates, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees as well as continuing education options so that those who are called to ministry will be well resourced. Also, we ask you to pray for provision and strength of human and financial resources, for spiritual protection and for more expressions of God’s Kingdom coming here in Quebec and beyond.
