The Gift of Our Annual Retreat - Annual Retreat Highlights by Kristen Corrigan, M.A.

Our prayer retreat, held on February 11, 2018, fills my heart with peace. We were part of a community event that brought together students, fellow professors and their spouses. The quality time spent together allowed us to break away from work concerns, studies and activities. The day was led by our two chaplains, Barry Whatley and Ruth Labeth.

We worshipped God as we praised Him and read from the Word. Another creative expression of worship had us reflecting on a variety of artwork that prompted self-reflection and deeper insights into who we are in Christ.

A contemplative walk in nature brought back some beautiful memories and allowed me to relax. The surroundings were very similar to those where I grew up in the Laurentians. Having an opportunity to snap inspiring photos of God’s creation filled me with fresh joy: tree buds that represent the promise of eternal life, a birch tree gnawed by beavers that highlighted for me animal resourcefulness, apple trees awaiting the return of spring to flower and bear fruit, all this in the shadow of the cross that overlooks the valley.

I’m eagerly anticipating the next annual retreat. My hope is that many will benefit from this time set apart to deepen their relationship with God and one another.
